UNC football concludes camp: What we learned

CHAPEL HILL — North Carolina on Monday finished up the formal “camp” portion of the preseason. Obviously, there’s still a bit of time – nine days, to be exact – before the Tar Heels begin the season on Aug. 29 at South Carolina. And so there is some preseason remaining. But the rest of it will be focused on preparing for the Gamecocks. UNC on Monday actually began installing its game plan for South Carolina. Before that practice, on Saturday, the Tar Heels moved out of the hotel they shared during the past three weeks.Indeed, camp is over. But, good or bad, the work the Tar Heels accomplished in recent weeks is likely to carry on throughout the season. Here’s a look at some things we learned from UNC’s preseason camp …1. The defense will remain a work in progress.Vic Koenning, the UNC defensive coordinator, might refer to this as a “MOTO” statement. That stands for master of the obvious. Koenning broke that out after a practice one day not long ago, and I found it humorous. But as obvious as it might be that the Tar Heels’ defense will be a work in progress, it’s probably fair to say this was a more difficult-than-expected preseason for the defense. It was already going to be challenging, trying to replace the production and leadership from departed seniors Sylvester Williams and Kevin Reddick. A rash of injuries throughout the preseason, though, have made things even more difficult. Shakeel Rashad and Sam Smiley, two potential starters, were lost for the season less than a week into camp. Injuries routinely kept other players out of practice.Even linebacker, where UNC thought it had plenty of depth, hasn’t been immune. The starters or set there, and coach Larry Fedora recently praised the job Travis Hughes did throughout the preseason, but injuries have made depth a concern entering the season. The numbers situation was so dire in recent weeks thatJack Tabb, the tight end, worked at linebacker. And Damien Washington, a former receiver, was moved to safety. There’s been constant movement on the defense throughout the preseason. Hardly any position has been immune. Questions surrounded this unit entering the preseason, and those questions have only intensified during recent weeks, when injuries piled up at an uncanny pace. The good news is that outside of Williams and Reddick, the defense returned lots of experience. But the bad news? Who knows how injuries and attrition and the constant movement will affect UNC.2. Outside of right tackle, the offensive line has come together well.Entering the preseason, no position group on offense faced more uncertainty than the offensive line. It lost three starters from last season, and all three were selected in the NFL draft. Among those draft picks wasJonathan Cooper, the left guard who was perhaps the best lineman in school history.Amid all the losses, it was fair to wonder how the line would come together. The answer: Nicely – with the exception of one position. Caleb Peterson, a redshirt freshman, has impressed enough throughout the preseason that neither Fedora nor offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic seem all that concerned about him filling the void left by Cooper. At right guard, Landon Turner, a sophomore who started the final four games of last season in place of the injured Brennan Williams, has played well.Peterson and Turner join senior left tackle James Hurst and junior center Russell Bodine, two All-ACC candidates. From left tackle to right guard, the Tar Heels’ line has the potential to be among the best in the conference. Right tackle, though, remains a concern – as I wrote about in a story here. The good news for UNC, at least, is that the right tackle position isn’t without talent. Jon Heck, the son of an NFL offensive line coach, is a cerebral, technically-sound player who would start at right tackle if the season started today. Kiaro Holts, whom coaches were hoping would seize control of the position, is a former highly-recruited prospect who has been beset by injuries, but whose talent has never been a question. Nick Appel and John Ferranto have played well enough in the preseason, too, to receive first-team reps at right tackle.UNC is still seeking clarity at the position, which is important for the sake of the line’s consistency and continuity. Overall, though, the line has made a relatively smooth transition after losing three NFL players.3. The offense shouldn’t lack for playmakers.Much has been said, and written, about Eric Ebron, the UNC tight end who must catch at least 12 touchdown passes to meet Fedora’s expectations. Ebron, Fedora and his staff believes, has the talent to be a future first-round NFL draft pick, and it’d be difficult to find a more physically-able tight end in the nation. He should have a big year. The Tar Heels’ offense, though, doesn’t lack for explosiveness and playmaking ability. Among the players that Fedora spoke most often about during the preseason were two freshmen: Ryan Switzer and Jonathan Howard, who is often referred to by his nickname, “Bug.”Switzer and Howard are both receivers but they couldn’t be much more opposite, physically. Switzer, a Parade All-American from West Virginia, is listed at 5-foot-10 but that might be a slight exaggeration. Howard, from Georgia, is 6-foot-4. Both made various high school All-American teams, and both arrived at UNC in part thanks to the allure of playing in Fedora’s up-tempo, wide-open spread offense. And both, it seems, will have a chance to contribute immediate. Switzer, in fact, practiced with the first team throughout much of the preseason. He has the makings to be a dangerous slot receiver. Howard, meanwhile, is similar physically to sophomore Quinshad Davis, who caught 61 passes last season.Depth at receiver was a constant issue last season, but it shouldn’t be this season. Davis, Fedora said, will have a chance to catch 100 passes. The freshmen should contribute. Sean Tapley, a junior receiver, has had a productive preseason, Fedora said. The numbers are good at running back, too, with returnees Romar Morris and A.J. Blue, and freshmanKhris Francis and T.J. Logan. It’d make sense if one of either Francis or Logan redshirted, but both have played well throughout the preseason, and both stand a good chance to contribute. Plus, Blue has been banged up throughout the preseason, and if those injuries persist UNC might want to use both Francis and Logan. So those are the three things we learned …Some things we didn’t learn:--Who’s the backup quarterback? Marquise Williams and Mitch Trubisky spent the preseason going back and forth. My guess: Williams would replace Bryn Renner in short-term situations, or if an injury happened late in the season. If for some reason Renner can’t play for an extended time early on, though, Trubisky just might be the guy.--Will the secondary be better? This is a unit that was at times scorched last season. Everybody is back, but we won’t know if that’s really a good thing or not until we get into the season. Tre Boston, the preseason All-ACC safety, said earlier this week he has worked on not gambling as much, and remaining disciplined in his coverage.--What relative unknown on defense is best-suited to emerge as a key player? We know about Boston, Hughes, Kareem Martin and Tim Jackson. But for this defense to reach its potential, it’s going to take someone coming out of nowhere, relatively, and becoming a really good player. I’d go with Norkeithus Otis, the bandit. Strong preseason.Nine days.- Andrew CarterRead more here: http://blogs.newsobserver.com/uncnow/unc-football-concludes-camp-what-we-learned#storylink=cpy

"Dia (Solmed) enggak usah nuntut, ketemu langsung saja.

Prophesy: Our Guns are Pointed toward Damascus Syria while our Hearts are turned away from GodLISTEN NOW! Greg, John and Pat discuss prophetic happenings as Greg shares a timely prophetic word; Our Guns are pointed toward Damascus, Syria while our hearts are turned away from God.  They share that when you first get a prophetic word there are times you feel that you hope you are missing it because of the severity of the word and then as the word begins to settle you realize the great need for repentance and after some more time you just realize this is not good unless of course there is repentance.   The key to receiving a prophetic word is faith but not just faith in God but also faith in the prophet.  Greg continues to share how the Lord showed him over a year ago America as a large ship that was going over the proverbial cliff.  The current state of America is one that exudes great pride. Imagine America as a ship or boat with many people all sticking an oar in the water trying to determine the direction in which they want to take the country; of course it goes nowhere.  The scary thing about pride is that you don’t even know that you are about to be destroyed.  As they continue to share we are reminded of the prophetic word Greg shared one year ago this week called (Hurricane Isaac a warning shot fired over the bow of America? ) (Listen Now or view post).  Today as we look at Washington D.C. we are just seeing a reflection of the heart of America.  You can’t criticize the mirror of America.  This prophetic word was released during the same time that the Republicans were holding their convention in South Florida as Hurricane Isaac hovered right over it resulting in delaying the start of the convention.  At the same time shots were being fired by NYPD at the base of the Empire State building where citizens were hit and wounded.  There is going to be death and calamity.  God is warning but who is paying attention?  How does America respond to a Hurricane named laughter (Isaaac) that hovered over the Republican Convention?  One month later Americans at the Democratic National Convention booed God and the acceptance of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  A vote was taken to fix what was excluded from the Democratic National Convention’s platform; God and the Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  After several attempts allowing delegates by confirming their vote with Yes or No each time the No’s were clearly louder than the Yes’s.  When the measure was finally passed, Americans at the convention booed God.  God is neither Republican nor Democrat, He is God.  Once the agenda was complete Bishop Vashti McKenzie, Co-chair of the Credentials Committee, made the motion to adopt the credentials committee report which was moved and seconded and was adopted.  They continue to share how God does nothing without first revealing it to his prophets Amos 3:7. However, the people must respond.  Greg continues to share how military ships in particular those from the Unites States are all named and before their name you will always see the letters USS which stands for United States Ship.  These ships as they travel throughout the oceans demonstrate the power of nations.  Right now Israel’s enemies surround her as US ships have guns pointed in her direction aimed at Damascus, Syria.  All of this is happening as today’s headlines read “Obama Faces Pressure to Make Case for Shot Across Bow Against Syria”.  Guns are pointed toward Syria yet our hearts are turned away from God.  President Obama was the one who empowered the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and it is being reported that it is the Muslim Brotherhood that is fighting against President Asaad in Syria.  A group his father, Hafez al- Assad, had allegedly suppressed and killed many members of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Even today the Muslim Brotherhood has influence that reaches the White House.  According to CBN, “Before President Barack Obama departed for Israel earlier this year, he took time to consult with Mohamed Magid.  Magid has reportedly become a trusted administration advisor on issues ranging from immigration to counterterrorism policy.”  Mohamed’s organization Islamic Society of North America according to CBN reports, “internal Muslim Brotherhood documents, captured by the FBI, name ISNA as one of 29 American-Muslim organizations with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood”.   They continue to discuss that when looking over time the context of dates are important as you can really see how multiple things were happening at the same time as tightly woven fabric.  They discus that when Archduke Ferdinan was assassinated his death was the first step in WWI and as a result of the war came the League of Nations which later became the United Nations.  President Woodrow Wilson went to war to fund big government and was the one responsible for the founding of the League of Nations.    It is interesting to note that next year will mark 100 years of that war the same year of the expected 4 blood moons.  What we are prophetically seeing is the groundwork being laid for who will be the next governor of American and for President Bill Clinton as the President of the World.  Israel is completely surrounded by her enemies and America has guns pointed in her direction aimed at Damascus, Syria, Isaiah 17, and Ezekiel 12.  In the end we will be judged for how we treat Israel, Joel 3.  God will judge those who come against the apple of God’s eye.  If we don’t humble ourselves we will be humbled.  Our only hope is to abide daily with God, listen to his voice and do what he tells us to dovfnrp

Celebrity Big Brother 2013: Launch night

There I was moaning about too much Big Brother, then on the two days it wasn't on, I got bored. I miss Dexter, ha. I don't like the celeb version as much as the normal version, but hey ho.Let's see what A list stars they've got lined up, then.First up, Louis Spence. I cannot STAND him! His lisp drives me nuts. Bring back Andrew Stone! He's enough to turn a gay man straight. No 'scrote hanging out though', so that's something. Are they going to put in Jim Davidson next? I heard he got off his sex charges.Ha to Louis going 'Thank God they got rid of the eco shit' and tidying up!OMG Lauren Harries is next. She gets on my nerves. I used to like her when I was a kid and she was the little antiques dude. She looks so old! How old is she? She needs to sort that lippy out. Who's next, Helen Lederer? Some other person of BOTS we don't like? Fuck me, look at her boobs! She's got Big Brother eye earrings. Illuminati. Lauren 'are you single and ready to mingle'? Let's hope not.Well, so far I hate these two people. I think my boyfriend just said 'imagine if you fancied Lauren Harries'? I'll get him to clarify this comment later on our podcast.I feel like Sophie Anderton has already been in there. Oh, she was the jungle. I think she was a cow. 'You may remember me for the Wonderbra advert.' No, most people who've heard of you remember you from being a coke head. I don't think jungle people should be allowed in BB. It's like Corrie and Eastenders. Never the twain shall meet. Ugh, I hate everyone. If I was Sophie and I walked down those stairs and saw that pair I'd walk back up again.Louis has clearly been watching the show as he knows about the eco stuff and knows where the Diary Room is. Ooh, they've jazzed up the DR chair. It's gone gold. I'm laughing at Louis is despite myself.Lauren doesn't know what a cult is. It's where you go to drink the Kool Aid. Give her an extra large cup.Louis is obsessed with cushions! Louis knows about the illuminati. OMG they're putting robes on. Are they going to drink some babies blood?Louis 'doesn't drink normally.' I'm officially watching how much he drinks from now on.OMG Les and Janice! Where's the horse fleece?! Are they one housemate?! Don't let Les drink, he's an alkie! I saw him on Jeremy Kyle recently. Where's Rosie Webster? Where's Chris Fountain? Put your money down now on Les getting kicked out. Oh, they are individual housemates! Janice FTW. I can't stand him but I like her.Janice is impressed with the Aga. They don't have those in Corrie.Next in is Courtney Stodden. I don't even know who her husband is, let alone her. She's missed her lips with the lipstick. I like the American housemates, though. She's going to be confused by Les and Janice. She looks emaciated. She looks like she's going to topple over with those boobs. Why is she getting booed? She seems to be having a problem with her boobs. I think they're trying to escape. OMG you can see her knick knocks! Wow. Keep it classy.LOL to Janice telling her she had lipstick on her teeth! What a trouper. I heart Janice. My boyfriend is moaning about the people. But the people are always shit. What is he expecting?ABZ! Of 5ive fame. He said he a sugar mommy on the Big Reunion. Why does he talk like a 12 year old boy? He doesn't like people talking shit? Curious. He's got an eye on his t-shirt too! Not liking his facial hair. Ha to him saying he needs the money and lives with his Auntie. He does not, he lives on a farm! 'I'm from a pop band.'Aw, it made Courtney feel bad being booed. Why are we making guests in our country feel bad? Courtney's hair is like candyfloss. Why aren't the cult leaders saying anything? Or I can't hear them saying anything. Lauren doesn't appear to be saying a word.Who the fuck is Danielle Marr? Johnny's bad enough. Dexter is more famous than her. What the hell is Dublin Wives? I hope they evict her. She seems like an arsehole and she looks like Claire from Steps' mum. She looks like she's got a bridesmaid dress on. But the bride hates her.Next up is Screech from Saved by the Bell ie. Dustin Diamond. Wasn't he in a porno? I am too young for Saved by the Bell. He looks very different to when he was younger. He's going to struggle to understand what Abz is saying. I sure do.I like Janice's hair colour. She does look skinny! The cult lot are not even watching this show, they're talking about bloody eye masks!I don't watch Geordie Shore so I don't know who Charlotte Crosby is. I liked her 'orifices' speech! She seems like a good laugh, haha. Peeing, shitting, pubes. She's like the opposite of Mary Berry. I think she's got bladder incontinence. She could be the new face of Tena Lady. 'She doesn't ever wear a bra'. She needs to. They'll be round her ankles!Janice is being rude about Charlotte already! They've given them warm booze? How rude. Stick it in the freezer. Like Jay McKray's poo.Oh no, it's someone from TOWIE. Just what we need - another Kirk Norcross. At least I know who Arg is. I don't know who this guy is. He looks like he's dressed as a bridegroom. He'll get on well with that bridesmaid. He's not doing very well with the questioning. 'I'm a mummy's boy.' OK then.Lauren Harries is good, isn't she! She could be the new Spiedi at this rate. Oh Lord, when Carol McGiffin is one of the most famous people in the house, you're really screwed. At least she's better that Denise Welch. Mind you, that's not hard. Carol is modelling a dress from the hunchback collection. LOL she's drunk! She's acting the goat. I think she's on coke. She rubbed her nose as well!Everyone is calling Dustin 'Justin'.I can't hear a word the people in the 'safe house' or whatever it is are saying. Finally it's Ron Atkinson. Does he really need the money? I can't stand football so I'm not interested. I could see him and Bruce teaming up and being a pair of old misery guts. Didn't he get pulled up for saying something racist and/or sexist? Or am I confusing him with some other fusty old football dude?No one is even saying hi to people when they walk in! How rude. This is a bunch of bullshit.Ron Atkinson and Mario look like they're going to be firm friends. Kill me now.Oh here's the 'twist'. Who's the most famous housemates? What scale are we using? I'd say Ron and Les or Janice. Then Carol.Oh they've gone for Les and Janice. Geordie Shore isn't happy. They've got to sleep in the garden. Is that the best they've got? Janice and Les should be used to sleeping together.Oh, dear. I am not liking this lot AT ALL. Who is there to root for? I have a bad feeling about this series. I don't feel excited! Shame as the cast for the 'civilian' series was so good, except the winner, obviously. Not that I'm still bitter! Listen to our podcast in an hour or so for a wrap up the real Big Brother and some bile about this bunch of dickheads.
